  LGU Bantayan-Centralized Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Brief Description of existing waste management plan FIGURE ABOVE:  The Basura Hipusa, Kahimsog Pangga-a (BAHKAP System) is the framework for the basic management and monitoring of domestic wastes in the Municipality of Bantayan.       Bantayan is seriously seeking for a durable solution to address complex waste management challenges in the context of climate change.  Today, the goal is to shift from the typical collection and disposal of garbage to RECOVERY of garbage with economic value at the household level.  Today, there are more than twenty thousand households, 392 puroks and 25 barangays to consider in the management of wastes.    To encourage waste segregation at source, we introduced the 9-waste characterization guide (monitoring form per household) to the 392 puroks, the purok officers then distribute the form to its households.  Each purok have established regular schedules for the weighing of garbage from

Contingency Plan in Case of Fire, Explosion, Release of Hazardous Waste

  EMERGENCY PROCEDURES             In the event of an imminent or actual emergency situation, the emergency coordinator (or their designate when the emergency coordinator is not available) must immediately: ·          Activate internal facility alarms or communication systems, where applicable, to notify all facility personnel; and ·          Notify appropriate local agencies with designated response roles if their help is needed, and ·          Follow the Emergency Operations Flow Chart (Appendix E). Description of Hazardous Waste Storage and Labelling

  Hazardous wastes collected from households and facilities own by the Municipality of Bantayan are stored in the HW storage facilities of the LGU Bantayan – Centralized Material Recovery Facility (CMRF).  These facilities are accessible in cases of emergency such as fire, explosions, or release of hazardous wastes, also accessible for inspection and daily monitoring.  The closure for HW is equipped with safety lock but adequately ventilated except for the Preliminary Disinfection Storage Facility (PDSF) that is enclosed and sealed with rubber fittings.  Its flooring is concrete and impermeable to liquids in case of spillage.  A Warning Sign for the presence of Hazardous Materials or Substances in the storage is installed at the entrance.  Only authorized persons are allowed inside the storage.    Classification of Hazardous Waste Stored in the LGU Bantayan – Centralized Material Recovery Facility (CMRF) from the Households and LGU facilities ONLY.
