BAHKAP System: Leadership Training for the Purok Officers







It is one of the most imperative strategies of the local government of Bantayan to prioritize actions with public health benefits and employ highest quality science with a full range of practical experience in resource management through an integrated solid waste management system.  The integration of solid waste management system and safe water sanitation and hygiene in the purok and barangay aims to develop management tools and standards, empower the purok through sharing of best practices and cooperation, conduct monitoring and coordination, and to respond emerging issues pertaining to garbage and water.  

OBJECTIVES
1.To introduce the nine (9) types of garbage most likely found in the mainstream for the proper segregation, diversion, and disposal;
2.       Equip the purok leaders, environmental enforcers and MRF personnel with the capacity and mechanisms for monitoring and coordination;
3.       Identify targets and strategies for the operation and management of the 2 MRFs in Ticad, and 4 sub-MRF in the Población barangays;
4.       Craft Operation and Management Plan for MRF

  LGU Bantayan-Centralized Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Brief Description of existing waste management plan FIGURE ABOVE:  The Basura Hipusa, Kahimsog Pangga-a (BAHKAP System) is the framework for the basic management and monitoring of domestic wastes in the Municipality of Bantayan.       Bantayan is seriously seeking for a durable solution to address complex waste management challenges in the context of climate change.  Today, the goal is to shift from the typical collection and disposal of garbage to RECOVERY of garbage with economic value at the household level.  Today, there are more than twenty thousand households, 392 puroks and 25 barangays to consider in the management of wastes.    To encourage waste segregation at source, we introduced the 9-waste characterization guide (monitoring form per household) to the 392 puroks, the purok officers then distribute the form to its households.  Each purok have establis...
