BAHKAP System: Leadership Training for the Purok Officers







It is one of the most imperative strategies of the local government of Bantayan to prioritize actions with public health benefits and employ highest quality science with a full range of practical experience in resource management through an integrated solid waste management system.  The integration of solid waste management system and safe water sanitation and hygiene in the purok and barangay aims to develop management tools and standards, empower the purok through sharing of best practices and cooperation, conduct monitoring and coordination, and to respond emerging issues pertaining to garbage and water.  

OBJECTIVES
1.To introduce the nine (9) types of garbage most likely found in the mainstream for the proper segregation, diversion, and disposal;
2.       Equip the purok leaders, environmental enforcers and MRF personnel with the capacity and mechanisms for monitoring and coordination;
3.       Identify targets and strategies for the operation and management of the 2 MRFs in Ticad, and 4 sub-MRF in the Población barangays;
4.       Craft Operation and Management Plan for MRF

Description of Hazardous Waste Storage and Labelling

  Hazardous wastes collected from households and facilities own by the Municipality of Bantayan are stored in the HW storage facilities of the LGU Bantayan – Centralized Material Recovery Facility (CMRF).  These facilities are accessible in cases of emergency such as fire, explosions, or release of hazardous wastes, also accessible for inspection and daily monitoring.  The closure for HW is equipped with safety lock but adequately ventilated except for the Preliminary Disinfection Storage Facility (PDSF) that is enclosed and sealed with rubber fittings.  Its flooring is concrete and impermeable to liquids in case of spillage.  A Warning Sign for the presence of Hazardous Materials or Substances in the storage is installed at the entrance.  Only authorized persons are allowed inside the storage.    Classification of Hazardous Waste Stored in the LGU Bantayan – Centralized Material Recovery Facility (CMRF) from the Households and LGU facilities ON...

BAHKAP System -  An evolving concept.    As we continue our effort to instill the discipline associated in solid waste management in a manner that is in accord with the best principles in public health, economics, engineering, conservation, aesthetics, and other environmental considerations – the Municipality of Bantayan have set its mandate toward institutionalizing the BAHKAP System.  BAHKAP was adopted by the local government unit of Bantayan in 2020.  It was introduced as Trash for Health (T4H) program by Zoological Society of London-Philippines – a conservation organization in cooperation with the Development Consulting Group, Inc.
