Salient Points:
For the month of April, we expected the volume of garbage to double because of the holy week activities.  The possible influx of local tourists and devotees coming from other cities and municipalities and even from other provinces were expected to affect waste generation.  However, the data show decrease of waste received in April 1-30.  From the average of 99,000 kg in Quarter 1, we only recorded 77,002 kg in in April (see Figure 1).  Based on data and assuming that all garbage generated in April has been collected, there is no significant increase of garbage generated in the month of April.  Though there is a slight increase of more than 2000 kg of biodegradable collected from the Public Market still manageable as compared to the forecasted increase of 100,000 kg.

Factors Affecting the Reduction of Waste in April:
1. The moisture content of garbage in April 1-30 was relatively lower due to absence of rainfall.  The average moisture content of Municipal Solid Waste ranging from 15%-40%.  Possibly, the moisture content is below 15% in April.  The reduction of moisture content is basically deducted from the actual weight of the garbage received.
2. Collection of glass bottles halted in April due to space allocation reserved for residual wastes.  So, there are still glass bottles to be collected from puroks.
3. Lipayran and Luyong Baybay do not have record of disposal in April.  These to barangays recorded higher volume of waste disposed in Quarter 1.

1. LGU Bantayan-Centralized Material Recovery Facility (CMRF) Garbage Monitoring – 374,502 Kg. (412.82 tons) as of April 30.
Based on the characterization/sorting guide for the CMRF are as follows: (January to April)

LGU Bantayan-Centralized Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Brief Description of existing waste management plan

LGU Bantayan-Centralized Material Recovery Facility (MRF): Brief Description of existing waste management plan FIGURE ABOVE:  The Basura Hipusa, Kahimsog Pangga-a (BAHKAP System) is the framework for the basic management and monitoring of domestic wastes in the Municipality of Bantayan.       Bantayan is seriously seeking for a durable solution to address complex waste management challenges in the context of climate change.  Today, the goal is to shift from the typical collection and disposal of garbage to RECOVERY of garbage with economic value at the household level.  Today, there are more than twenty thousand households, 392 puroks and 25 barangays to consider in the management of wastes.    To encourage waste segregation at source, we introduced the 9-waste characterization guide (monitoring form per household) to the 392 puroks, the purok officers then distribute the form to its households.  Each purok have establis...
