Beacuase of the active participation of Puroks in the 25 barangays in Bantayan, the final sorting and recovery of recyclable materials is even easier and efficient, the Municipal Solid Waste Managent of Bantayan reported.  

Vaulting of Hazardous Waste

This facility is intended for storage of all hazardous waste recovered at the final sorting of garbage collected from households and government facilities within the Municipality of Bantayan.  Upon reaching the minimum volume, it will be collected by the accredited hazadous waste treaters for final treatment.

Organic wastes generated from the public market of the Municipality of Bantayan are collected daily and transported to the CMRF.  On the average, the CMRF received 20 tons of organic waste every month.

BAHKAP Initiatives: Partnership & Linkages

  PRESENTATION OF BAHKAP SYSTEM FRAMEWORK                 Mr. Rosendo Bonghanoy, Jr., Municipal Solid Waste Manager presented the BAHKAP System Pilot Project 2022 result and salient points in the pipeline for 2023.   The BAHKAP System Framework is the major output developed based on the results and analyses in the pilot study.                   In the study conducted in June to December of 2022, there were three indicators used.   First, the Level of Acceptability of Household toward proper waste segregation, second, the Level of Participation of Household in proper waste segregation, and third, the waste characterization guide for the households introducing the nine (9) types of garbage.   The introduction of waste characterization guide to all households and puroks have gained positive feedback from the people because it made easier for them to segregate their own garbage.                   Based on the BAHKAP System monitoring, the average participation of households in pilot bara

TUPAD 157: A cash-for-work initiative of Bantayan in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

  RATIONALE:      It is one of the most imperative strategies of the local government of Bantayan to prioritize actions with public health benefits and employ highest quality science with a full range of practical experience in resource management through an integrated solid waste management system.   The integration of solid waste management system and safe water sanitation and hygiene in the purok and barangay aim to develop management tools and standards, empower the purok through sharing of best practices and cooperation, conduct monitoring and coordination, and to respond emerging issues pertaining to garbage and water.   OBJECITVE:       To provide cash assistance to the 157 disadvantage/displaced workers from the informal sectors in the Municipality of Bantayan through the TUPAD program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).   RESULTS:        Based on the daily monitoring of the number of beneficiaries present from day 1 to day 10 of implementation. ·       Total no.

INSIGHTS: Coastal Resource Management

Increasing demand for marine products in the local market is directly associated with the increasing human population of the country. The increase in population per year has greatly impacted the socio-economic landscape and values of the people.  To mention some challenges associated with population is its effect on coastal resource management.  Destructive fishing activities is one of the perennial issues affecting coastal resource management in the Philippines. The enforcement of the national and local policies and regulations is very challenging because most of the time the effort will all trickle down to inconsistency in the implementation and lesser priority. In the northern part of Bohol, Philippines, the settlements are most commonly concentrated along coastal areas and islets thereby increasing the demand for marine products and at the same time potential increase in the enforcement threshold.   The first issue is the high demand of marine products in the local market.   Why?
